Benefits

Why Choose The True Canadian Yurt?

The True Canadian Yurt is built for our climate and our expectations. It offers more insulation options, better moisture management, and thoughtful details that make it easier to build and live in year after year.

Eco-Conscious living

Crafted with natural, breathable materials, the True Canadian Yurt is designed to create a healthier and more comfortable indoor environment while preserving the warm, organic feel of traditional yurts. Built with Canadian-sourced wood, natural Mongolian wool insulation, a 100% cotton interior liner, and a durable cotton-blend exterior canvas, it offers a more natural alternative to many heavily synthetic building approaches, while maintaining durability.

More Code-Aware Design

The True Canadian Yurt is designed with
long-term livability and modern building expectations in mind. Taller wall heights, double-pane glass, standard-sized Canadian lumber, and easier utility integration help create a structure that feels more compatible with many North American building approaches and living standards. Customers should still confirm local bylaws, site requirements, and occupancy regulations for their area.

Refined Design Aesthetic

The True Canadian Yurt blends modern simplicity with the warmth of natural materials to create a space that feels open, peaceful, and inviting. Its geometric timber roof system creates a more spacious and architectural interior, while the exposed wood structure adds visual warmth and the oversized central dome fills the space with natural light.

More Permanent, Still Flexible

Built to feel more permanent than many traditional yurt designs while still maintaining the flexibility to be relocated if needed, the True Canadian Yurt adapts easily to a wide range of uses. Taller walls and a steeper roof pitch create a more open, functional interior that can more easily accommodate lofts, interior walls, plumbing, electrical systems, and everything from peaceful retreats and creative studios to guest spaces and full-time living.

Enhanced Comfort and Livability

Designed for four-season Canadian living, the True Canadian Yurt combines breathable insulation, moisture management, natural ventilation, and integrated airflow systems to create a comfortable interior year-round. The structure is also compatible with modern heating systems including wood stoves, pellet stoves, electric heat, radiant heating, and mini-split systems.

      FEATURES

      Built for four-season comfort.

The True Canadian Yurt is built with the details that support year-round living, and offers upgrade options to help you fine-tune warmth, airflow, and durability for your site.

      5’&6’ Acrylic dome

      • The central acrylic dome brings natural light deep into the
yurt while also supporting passive airflow and ventilation throughout the structure. During warmer months, the openable dome helps release rising heat and improve airflow through the yurt.
      • Built from premium ACRYLITE FF acrylic sheet with 92% light transmission, the dome is lightweight, impact-resistant, waterproof, and designed to withstand demanding Canadian weather conditions.
      • Each dome opens up to 10 inches using manual spindles and includes an optional mosquito net system for added airflow without insects.

      Chimney Insert

The Chimney Through the Wall frame creates a safe, reinforced opening for venting a pellet or wood stove chimney through the yurt wall. Designed to fit between two wall posts, it integrates into the yurt structure similarly to a window. Please note: stove, chimney, clearances, heat shielding, and exterior supports must be installed by the customer or a qualified professional. Groovy Yurts supplies the structural wall frame only.

      Felt Insulation

Every True Canadian Yurt includes one layer of wall felt and two layers of roof felt in the base price. Made from high-quality Mongolian felt, the insulation helps retain heat in winter while reducing solar heat gain in summer.

      Approx. 5/8" thick per layer

R-value: 3.4 per inch (approx. R-2.1 per layer)

Breathable, naturally flame-resistant, moisture regulating, and ideal for four-season use

      Optional Upgrades
      Second Wall Felt Layer
Add a second wall felt layer for increased insulation. Available at 30% off when ordered with a new yurt.

      Third Roof Felt Layer
Add a third roof felt layer for increased insulation. Available at 30% off when ordered with a new yurt.

      Extra Complete Felt Layer
Recommended for climates regularly below -20°C (-4°F). Includes additional roof and wall felt. Available at 30% off with a new yurt.

      Windows

Every True Canadian Yurt includes two floor-to-ceiling fixed windows installed beside the main entry door. Built with tempered double-pane glass and insulated vinyl frames, they provide natural light, durability, and year-round performance.

      Size: 19.25" × 82"

      Optional Additional Windows
Additional fixed or single-hung windows can be added anywhere within the wall structure, installed neatly between two wall posts to increase natural light and improve ventilation. Single-hung options include integrated mosquito screens and are manufactured in Canada.

      Flooring

Our insulated tongue-and-groove yurt flooring is designed for easy transport and assembly. Made in Canada using 3" SIP panels (2" rigid insulation between two plywood layers), it can be installed on a simple substructure or directly on a deck.

Each flooring package includes an 8" plywood rim board for the outer circumference.

      Optional Protective Treatments
      Upon request, we can apply:

      • Thompson Water Seal to the underside
      • Two coats of high-quality latex varnish on the top surface

      Exterior Covers

The exterior canvas cover is built from a breathable, fire-retardant material certified to CPAI-84 standards. Designed for year-round exposure, it works together with the integrated rainscreen and house wrap system to help manage moisture, improve drying, and protect the yurt structure from wind and weather.

Unlike many synthetic covers, the breathable exterior cover system helps reduce trapped condensation while remaining removable and repairable over time.

      DIY Compatibility

True Canadian Yurts are designed to give owners flexibility, customization options, and long-term repairability. The taller wall height, structural post system, and steeper roof pitch make it easier to personalize the interior space compared to many traditional yurts.

      Owners can more easily integrate:

      • Kitchens and washrooms
      • Electrical, plumbing, and septic systems
      • Interior partition walls
      • Loft or mezzanine spaces for additional sleeping or storage areas

The wall structure allows utilities and framing to be installed more naturally within the building, making the yurt more adaptable for long-term living.

      Testimonials

      Groovy Yurts reviews.

Owners love living, hosting, and working in their yurts. Here's what some of them have to say.

The yurts are my little tanks, as I like to call them... They’re not going anywhere. Super safe and super fun to be in, especiallyin a storm. Really cozy.

You can lay in your bed, staring out the toono, and see the skies right from inside of your yurt. You walk in and you are blown away by the colours and beauty. A work of art you can actually live in!

We own a small glamping business which we have been building over the last few years and have been fortunate enough to have purchased the first 3 super gers, and then our 4th from Groovy Yurts — and we plan for more in the near future!

From start to finish, their customer service is fantastic! Everyone on the team, from sales to setup, is both personable and knowledgeable about their product. They are passionate about the authenticity of their yurts and are always keen to share the history, connection to Mongolia, its people, and the importance of honouring their traditions — information that we pass on to our guests — and they love it!

We cannot recommend this company enough!

I am the Manager of a Campground here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I recently purchased a 5 wall 20ft Yurt from Groovy Yurts. The experience has been great from start to finish. The staff that delivered the Yurt were very informative, easy to work with and very professional.

The yurt itself is amazing and has been well received by all. Just with word of mouth this groovy yurt has been booked up every weekend and beyond.

We recently had a rain and thunder and lightning storm that brought 90-plus inches of rain. We had a young family staying in the yurt at the time, they loved the experience and the yurt handled it no problem.

      Thank You Groovy Yurts!!

Our business dealings with the team at Groovy Yurts has been beyond first class. We are proud owners of 3 of their yurts and have had them going on 2 full years. The sales, support, and installation were beyond great. Every time we had any issues, we received follow up immediately.

Not only are the yurts beautiful, but they are warm and have amazing acoustics. As an aside I am a licensed wedding officiant and performed a wedding in one last year.

We will buy more yurts from Groovy Yurts in the future!

Yves was an absolute gem to work with! He gave us so much information about our yurts and was instrumental in helping us understand everything about them so that we would feel comfortable constructing more and maintaining the 6 we have!

We love everything about them, the natural materials, the hand-painted wood, and the sustainability. They are a work of art. Yves made the process seamless from start to finish. He consulted with us on our project for hours and personally came on-site to help us put up our first two. He even came back at the end of the project to make sure everything was done the way we needed it to be and troubleshoot a finicky issue until it was perfect.

We couldn’t ask for better service!

The Groovy Yurts team is top-notch! We have 23 Groovy Yurts at our glamping resort in the Texas Hill Country, and we couldn’t be happier with them. The quality of the yurts is simply the best and the beauty of the yurts speaks for itself.

Yves and his team have very detailed training videos and instructions for setting up and maintaining the yurt. We are grateful to the whole group for providing fantastic service and giving back to their world community at the same time!
